Northern Flicker

Colaptes auratus. 12.5"

Gray face, gray crown, red malar, no nape marks. should be the Red-shafted Western, but is was taken in the edge of an oasis in the Coahuila, Mexican desert. I thought this one would be found in the mountains. Commets?.
